Challenges and Resilience
The mission tested the limits of all participants. Rubie sustained an injury en route to the Sayat-sayat checkpoint (3,668 meters)—the final rest point before the summit—and made the difficult decision to turn back. Meanwhile, Zayanah was advised not to attempt the summit after a late arrival at Laban Rata coupled with fever symptoms,
prioritizing safety over completion.
The mountain’s extreme elevation creates drastic temperature variations, with freezing conditions often encountered at the summit plateau—a barren, flat-topped granite block spanning approximately 0.8 kilometers.
Months of Preparation
The Journey to the Summit mission launched earlier this year with a rigorous training regimen spanning several months. The team built their endurance and skills through preparatory climbs, among them are at Gunung Dato’, Bukit Angsi, and Bukit Denai 3 Puteri, systematically preparing for the ultimate challenge of scaling Southeast Asia’s
fourth-highest mountain.
Mission Accomplished
Despite the obstacles, the mission achieved its core objectives. All five participants gained invaluable experience in teamwork, perseverance, and personal growth—lessons that extend far beyond the mountain trail.
“Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try,” a motto that defined this expedition and reflects Silara Akses’ commitment to excellence and continuous improvement in all endeavors.
